We met during our middle school years, drawn to the same group of friends. Our initial connection was made during gym class and our very first interaction together was that of shared laughter. We shared deep conversations while working together on school projects. Our friendship blossomed as we continuously talked about our futures, and laughter became the soundtrack of our days.
We remained best friends all of middle school, and started dating in high school. Amidst the chaos of exams, papers, homecoming, and in preparation for college, our love story grew stronger. We became Mr & Miss of our Highschool, and also won Prom King & Queen. Graduation day arrived, and we stood side by side, ready to face the world together.
As we stepped into adulthood, we were introduced to Victory Church where we met Jesus for the first time. Our lives were forever changed. Years later, after starting our journey with our Pastoral counselor Bill Hoffman, we discovered and unearthed many weeds that were making us unhealthy. We surrendered everything to the Lord, and that included our relationship— one that at the time, wasn’t God’s best for us. Sometimes God takes us on a journey we didn’t know we needed, to bring us everything we ever wanted. We trusted His plan for our lives, and became grateful for the wounds that pushed us closer to Him. If it was meant to be, God will make it happen in his perfect timing. After embarking on a long healing journey, God gave us victory on the same ground where we chose to lay it all down.
Rey planned a beautiful documentary viewing with our closest friends and family. The documentary was titled "the perfect proposal" and it was a funny but heartfelt film of Rey seeking out the perfect time to propose. The location where he proposed was very special because it's the place where we met Jesus, our lord and savior, and where we'd soon find out it's where we'd lay our life down, including our relationship.
Rey proposed at the base of a large cross in front of our church. It all came full circle, in His perfect timing. As he got on one knee, he mirrored what Christ does for the church. A fully yielded heart is the soil God uses to grow the strongest trees.
God blessed our obedience. We made a heartfelt promise to spend our lives together, sealing our love with a commitment that has continued to evolve as we build a life together. Our story is a testament to the idea that the most profound connections can form when we least expect them – in the heart of our academic pursuits, that led to our careers, and then led to Victory leaving God at the center of it all— setting the stage for a lifetime of love and adventure, but most importantly..
A CHRIST CENTERED RELATIONSHIP!
